  • Success Stories | Giving Back To Kenya

Success Stories Below you will see how your giving and support are helping us make a difference in the lives of young teenagers in Kenya. Success Stories Our Work Renny's Story! Before... My name is Renny Ochieng, a Kenyan citizen and also a beneficiary from your organization's sponsorship. I came into this programme of sponsorship in the year 2012-2019. Before the advent of the programme 'giving back to Kenya', I was a class eight leaver who had no front. My parents had passed away and I had no one to pay my school fees for further studies. In fact in our village, post-primary studies were regarded as a luxury and therefore I had no other option but to drop out of school. By the grace of God, Dr. Bethwel and the team got inspired and they launched the organization. I became the first beneficiary whereby I got enrolled in Bodi Mixed Secondary school for Form one from the year 2012 to 2015 at Form four. While in the school, I was catered for everything i.e school fees, personal emoluments to mention but a few. I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2015 and scored a mean grade of B. I got accepted to join higher studies at Kisii University but still I couldn't make both ends meet. The organization again aided me to acquire higher education at the University level by paying part of my tuition fees. At the University, I pursued a Bachelor degree in Education Arts where I graduated in the year 2021 with a merit of Second Upper Division. Currently, I work at St. Theresa's Nyangusu Girls as a BOM teacher. I want to thank GB2K for sponsoring me through my intellectual journey. I may not ever be able to say/show this enough to you, but thank you so much for your kindness, generosity and your works of charity will never go unappreciated. My life was full of darkness but now, the light has shone on me. After Mary's Story! My name is Atieno, Mary. I take this opportune time to thank God and to write about my educational journey with Giving Back to Kenya (GB2K). I was enrolled in the sponsorship program in 2013 while in Form 2 at Bodi Mixed secondary school. I was fully sponsored by the organization till l did my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Exams (KCSE) in 2015 whereby l attained mean grade of B- which couldn't allow me to enroll in university as a government sponsored student by that year. I requested a second chance to make another attempt at my secondary exams and l was granted. Indeed it was favour from the Lord! In 2016 February, I joined Sigoti Girls' where I did my KCSE for the second time and attained direct entry to the university. In 2017 September, l joined Kisii university to study Bachelor of Education Science option Biology and Chemistry. By the grace of God, l graduated with Second Class Honours Upper Division. Currently, I reside in Mombasa looking forward to Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employment as I work under board of management terms. Finally, l give God all the glory and thank the GB2K organization. May God bless you. Before... After

It is the third-largest city (after Kampala, Uganda and Mwanza, Tanzania) in the Lake Victoria Basin. - (Wikipedia ) - Direct Patient Care Medical Student Training Resident Teaching Learn More Neurosurgical Services "Volunteering as a medical missionary on several trips to Africa has demonstrated the need for continued medical missionary work with goals traversing direct patient care and extending to medical student teaching and resident training. The benefit of our approach is the focus on long term results. We achieve this by making a long term commitment to equip local providers in order to achieve future independence. The providers who volunteer also benefit from a change in focus, appreciation of what is mundane, and are reminded how little technology or infrastructure is needed in order to demonstrate that you care for a patient or to preserve the dignity of being human." --Dr. Bethwel Raore

Their explanation was simple. They could not afford the tuition and fees needed to attend high school. Some had started and dropped out, others had never even started. The cost of attending high school for one school year in Kenya ranges between $500 and $1500 USD depending on the school. Being an orphan was a major factor contributing to the high school dropout rate. "We had to do something." • About Us | Giving Back To Kenya

About Us At Giving Back to Kenya, we aim to change communities by encouraging the support of Kenyan immigrants and other friends of Kenya. Many immigrants from Kenya came from communities that have high levels of poverty, poor healthcare and education availability. Our goal is to encourage the support of current projects or the identification and support of projects that advance our mission. Our target support projects geared to improve education availability, and healthcare delivery in local communities. Learn More Our Why The socioeconomic impact of having a high school diploma verses an eighth grade education is of immense benefit not only to the individual but also the community and the world. With a burden to change lives, and improve communities, putting kids back in school to complete their high school education was the right thing for us to do. Learn More Our Impact When we first started supporting students, we partnered with other organizations with similar goals, but in 2014 our organization was formed. Since then, we have enabled over 49 students, who had previously dropped out, or never attended high school to earn a high school diploma. Every year we fully support more than 20 students, in various high school grades. Some of these at risk students are as old as 18 years when they start high school. Every year, with the assistance of members of our local community. Giving back to Kenya recruits new students into the program. Our alumni have excelled! Many of them getting admissions into universities and colleges in Kenya. Although our mission is to help with high school education, we are now seeking the partnership of friends to assist the students who desire to further their career and be independent and responsible members of society.
